A page from "Kano"

Okay, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this yet......but here goes. I haven't posted anything in a while because I've been busy with my current job (illustrating this kid's book about the founder of judo), and planning my honeymoon to Italy.... That's right, I said honeymoon. I know we've been married almost 2 years already, but since this is our first trip alone together anywhere....it is our honeymoon.
And about this illustration.....the story is set in the mid-1800's in Japan. Here, the hero of the story , Jigoro Kano, is 11 years old. He is walking down a busy street of a Japan newly open to foreign lands. To the left of the image, we see examples of older, traditional japanese culture, and to the right, a bit of the western world creeps in.
